Here it is a new Month and I must say my favorite month because I will turn 71 on the 21st of this month. I have wanted to spend time each day reading God's word and last night I laid awake thinking about how I was going to do that.
I have always felt that wanting to do something is much different than actually doing something. We were listing to a sermon by one of our favorite pastors. Dr. Charles Stanley. He was sharing the need for discipline and desire in our lives and the lives of our family.
He emphasised that it takes discipline to make us a good Christen. We need to discipline ourselves so that we will grow and make our lives productive no matter what age we are.
I make a commitment to myself to read through the Bible by reading a portion each day that I could and record some of the most important verses that I read. I started at the beginning, Genesis, but also read Proverbs for some inspiring input. I have included some of the “Wisdom Verses” below that I am trying to focus on and think that they are very important to our Christian Growth:
Proverbs
3: 5 Trust in the Lord with all your
heart
and lean not on your own understanding
and lean not on your own understanding
Proverbs
9: 11 For through wisdom[b] your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.
and years will be added to your life.
Proverbs
12: 16 Fools show their annoyance at
once,
but the prudent overlook an insult
but the prudent overlook an insult
Proverbs
12: 25 Anxiety weighs down the heart,
but a kind word cheers it up.
but a kind word cheers it up.
Proverbs
13: 3 Those who guard their lips
preserve their lives,
but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.
but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.
Proverbs
13: 18 Whoever disregards discipline
comes to poverty and shame,
but whoever heeds correction is honored.
but whoever heeds correction is honored.
Proverbs
14: 17 A quick-tempered person does
foolish things,
and the one who devises evil schemes is hated.
and the one who devises evil schemes is hated.
Proverbs
15 A gentle answer turns away
wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs
15: 4 The soothing tongue is a tree of
life,
but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.
but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.
Proberbs 15: 5
A fool spurns a parent’s discipline,
but whoever heeds correction shows prudence
but whoever heeds correction shows prudence
Proverbs
15: 18 A hot-tempered person stirs up
conflict,
but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.
but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.
Proverbs
16: 31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor;
it is attained in the way of righteousness.
it is attained in the way of righteousness.
Proverbs
17: 27 The one who has knowledge uses
words with restraint,
and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
Proverbs
19: 11 A person’s wisdom yields patience;
it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.
it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.
rescue them, and you will have to do it again.
